Description

That’s what drives what we do at Bala Yoga each and every day. Founded in 2010, we’re proud of the light, airy studio space we call home, our diverse group of knowledgeable and passionate instructors, and the wide variety of classes filling our schedule each week. Bala Yoga isn’t just another fitness studio; we’re a community celebrating movement, breath and light.

Today we offer a wide range of yoga classes including power vinyasa, yin yoga, prenatal yoga, and kids sessions. Regardless of which you select, each class will challenge and nurture you, increasing strength and flexibility, encouraging breath and pause, and ultimately helping you go back out into the world more mindful and at ease than when you walked through our doors. You’ll find our studio heated to 85 degrees (not nearly as hot as hot yoga or bikram), making Bala a comfortable, welcoming place to practice yoga for beginners and advanced students alike. We look forward to greeting you in our Kirkland location or our brand new studio in the vibrant Fremont neighborhood of Seattle (now open!).

A healthier and happier you is one step closer.

this place is a favorite in Juanita! But..

Get there early if you have a specific spot you like- this place is a favorite in Juanita! :) I come here weekly and like it a lot. I bring my own cleaning wipes for the ground though; the instructors do not mop after classes and leave it up to the students to... which means it doesn't get done. That's where the 3 stars comes in; 4 stars otherwise.

1 star for how cute the lobby and studio are, 1 star for the Yin Yoga class.

I got the unlimited month and went a grand total of 4 times. I tried different classes and different instructors and the Yin was the only class I actually felt relaxed after (which is the point of Yin so that shouldn't be a surprise). I don't care how active a yoga class is, I still expect yoga to relax me by the end of the class. I don't like that this place doesn't put a focus on clearing your mind. I was never put into the right mindset to start my practice and it definitely was not reinforced throughout. A couple classes had us focus on breath for a couple minutes at the beginning but that was the only mention of breath throughout the whole class....

These classes are kind of just like "okay you made it to yoga class, good job, now do these random poses that barely flow into each other and then at the end we'll chill in savasana for maybe 30 seconds".....NOPE. Not the type of yoga I enjoy at all.

Another thing I absolutely hated was that they do not air the room out before a class that's supposed to be unheated (ie. Slow Flow). There was clearly a high intensity class before and you could feel it when you walked in. The instructor never opened the doors to air it out so I sweat like crazy during SLOW FLOW. I don't care if I sweat, I like it. Just don't advertise the class as unheated if you're not going to adhere to it. If I had known I would've brought a damn towel.

Don't come here if you enjoy yoga for its meditative and relaxing benefits, you will not find it at Bala Yoga.

Good!

Came in on a Friday night for their 6pm candle lit yoga class or at least according to their website. To my surprise, the candle lit yoga never happened although there was a class.

Dikla the instructor was very nice, gave adjustments to people who needed it and was also very encouraging to the advanced students. She also spent time after the class to break down handstand to people who wanted to listen.

They carry the best Kombucha on tap by Puget Sound Kombucha Company for only $5.00!!!! Make sure you pick one after the class!

All in all, the class was good but they need to update their website so people don't get confused.

Amazing in every respect.

Parking: check.
Lockers: check.
Kombucha on tap???? CHECK!!!
Spacious changing room: check.
Relaxing studio: check.
Location: perfect.

After only two weeks of yoga, I was ready to advance to something more challenging. Although I was a little nervous about the heat of this Power Vinyasa: Level 1 class, I felt confident my body could tolerate it.

They have all of the tools you need: blocks, straps, blankets and cushions. I set up near the opaque window and watched the class fill to the max with all ages and both men and women....on one of the most beautiful days this year; a sign that this class must be great.

The instructor was incredibly informative about modifications and how the class would proceed. I felt like she was talking directly to me! I found myself relaxing and being grateful for my body the entire time. 75 minutes was a breeze!

I can't wait to come back!!!!

Very nice!!!

I'm NEW to yoga (unless you count 3 classes while in HS/college) and so sought out a studio. I've been wanting to try yoga as a weight lifting alternative, since that has really taken a toll on my muscles over time. Bala came highly reviewed from a friend. One major selling point for me was the TWO locations. One close to work, and one close to home, which made it a win win. I've really enjoyed my time at the studio so far, and their 30 for $35 deal they have online is really a great test-run of yoga (if you're new) and also Bala (if you're studio shopping). I don't doubt that I'll be signing up soon once my 30/35 expires. My favorite class has been with Laura. I love the Vinyasa flow. I would also love Bala to offer some more Hatha style yoga, because that's a nice environment to get the poses right as a beginner, but I'm pretty athletic so I've been catching on quick. And BTW, if you're new to yoga, prepare to be sore for DAYS after. #shoulders, augh.

The best yoga class ever.

Yin Yoga with Pam is the best yoga class ever. If you are looking to destress, if your body is calling out to you to stretch, to move, take this Yin class! Pam presents yoga in a beautiful, mindful and totally complete way so that your body and mind thank you at the end.

Fantastic

Bala was my first attempt at regularly practicing yoga in a traditional studio setting as opposed to VHS tapes (people still use those right? VHS is still cool). I was having chronic back problems and needed to get some good stretching in. I had recently moved to the area and passed this place all the time, so one day I walked in.

I can't remember the specifics of the deal I went with. I think it was like 30 days for 40 dollars or something like that. It was years ago so I don't know if that particular deal is still a thing. I went with a full membership the next month. I was basically addicted after 2 months. 3 years later, I can't imagine what life would be like without yoga, but I'm sure it would suck.

The teachers are fantastic. There is a wide range of classes that you can choose from for all experience levels. The online schedule is very useful and regularly maintained. The room is the perfect temperature. Not traditional "Hot" yoga, but still warm enough to get the same cleansing benefits. Very good atmosphere and friendly yogis. My back rarely bothers me anymore and my shoulders are looking pretty nice.

The only thing I would warn about is the parking in Jaunita Village. Definitely arrive early to look for a spot or avoid driving here if possible.

Bala Yoga is nice!

Oh Yoga... how I miss thee when I've fallen off the wagon... or i'm on the wagon... Seinfeld plug there. Anyway, Bala Yoga is legit! And this is my review of me recommitting to my long overdue practice.

Like all Yoga studios, Bala had a nice Groupon... I want to say $30 for 10 sessions? 2 months to use it, no other limitations. Very nice deal. I really suggest doing this when you are checking out studios because it can easily be $15-$20 for just one session at a nice yoga studio, so might as well grab more bang for your buck with an online deal.

The studio is located in Juanita Village and parking can be crappy, so arrive close to when the last class let out so nail a sweet spot....or walk a little bit. The front desk folks are friendly and give you a walkthrough of the place on your first visit. There are nice shoe cubbies and coat hangers by the door, but leave your shoes on if you need to use the restroom as it is down a hallway separate from the studio.

The studio itself is warm/hot. I've had classes here where it was 85 degrees, but most of them are 100. You will sweat. I enjoy this style of yoga...but bring water and a towel. They do rent mats (your first rental is free). If you haven't done hot yoga before, hydrate a LOT the day of. It is a wonderful, wonderful feeling...and hopefully you will be addicted!

Bala Yoga is nice! Check it out, be kind, namaste.

GREAT class.

I took the 6pm Power Vinyasa with Mike last night, and it was a GREAT class. I loved the ambiance of the studio: not stuffy, just clean and comfortable. Since it's warm yoga, I didn't get dizzy, which was a welcome change from classes at Ashram (which are also great, if you can handle intense heat). I was challenged a lot more than I was expecting, but I'm not a regular yogi anymore and it showed me what areas of my body need strengthening. The class was pretty full, but we all had plenty of working area and kept our sweat to ourselves.

Mike stayed really positive throughout the class, and it made me think about how much we focus on what our bodies can't do when we should be celebrating all that we CAN do. It was nice to take a break from the self-criticism. I also really enjoyed the tunes he played, which were different than the typical relaxation music that puts me to sleep (although that came at the end when we were cooling down). After the final savasana, there were even FANS to cool the room down...yessss.

I'm looking forward to practicing again at Bala. Another thing that impressed me was how friendly the staff is. The gal at the front desk was really welcoming and gave me a tour of the space. Oh, and they serve delicious tea! Can't go wrong with trying this place out.

Fine!

I returned to the studio for a quick class at 545pm on Labor Day. I was worried that there will be a lot of yogi like usual. Luck for me, I was able to enjoy the class with a decent amount of yogi as I am not a big fan of crowded room. I felt confined that way.

The class is hot enough but not overwhelming and challenging enough. However, I hope the transition phrase is more detail. This is a common wish list at different studio for me.
