You will not find a more thorough or knowledgeable realtor than Michael Schafer! He is incredibly quick to respond to questions, showing requests, and just about any advice you need when purchasing a home. As a first time home buyer he really took the time to educate us on the housing market. He will always do what is in your absolute best interest and offer moral support and guidance when needed. We were able to buy our dream home in this incredibly competitive market! I have and will continue to refer Michael to all of the people I care most about knowing they will get the most attentive, dedicated expert!Less

We moved here from New York City about two years ago. We rented for a while to get a feel for all the different neighborhoods and figure out where we wanted to buy long-term. We were coming from a hot sellers' market in New York City and never imagined that we would deal with something similar in Seattle. Well, surprise! It's 2017 and it's a hot sellers' market. Units were going off the market as soon as they were coming on. In a market like this we realized there are plenty of people who see being a broker as a great opportunity, but we wanted someone experienced who really knew the market. We scoured the Internet for all the top brokers and met with a couple. Michael stood out. He walked us through the home-buying process, clearly demonstrating his experience. Perhaps just as importantly, he demonstrated a professional and calm demeanor--something you will appreciate as a buyer in this frenzied market. When we finally did find a place we loved, we worked with Michael to put in a strong offer. At the time we were dreading having to go to more open-houses and see more places. We hoped this would be it, but knew the market was super-competitive and we might have to endure more. We go the place! Thanks to Michael's guidance and recommendations we beat out all of the other bids (and there were many--all above ask). Michael knew everything we had to do to come out on top. Not only did he correctly estimate within a few thousand dollars the final winning bid, he also knew how to package our offer in a way that ensured it stood out from the competition. My wife and I were married in 2016 and our goal as newlyweds was to purchase our first home together in 2017. We started our search very casually one weekend in January by checking out a couple open houses. Our initial plan was to start our search early because we knew how competitive the market was. We figured that we would compete on several homes and hopefully buy by spring or summer. Michael came highly recommended to us by several of our friends who were also first time homebuyers. He was the perfect fit for our needs. After our initial contact, Michael rearranged his schedule (so we could squeeze him into ours) to meet with us in person. He answered all the questions we had, explained the home buying process and the market to us, and took the time to understand everything that we were looking for in a home. That first meeting was invaluable to us, because our initial plan was about to be greatly accelerated. Less than two weeks later we found a house that we really loved. Michael knows that timing is such a huge factor in this market and went right to work for us. He set up a pre-inspection and put in the time to review and write up a detailed comps report for us (which was not an easy task due to the lack of recent sales in the neighborhood). All of this allowed us prepare an informed offer before the "offer review date." Michael was strategic and showed his experience in negotiations with the selling agent. He also had the additional challenge of being a mediator for me and my wife. I was stressed about our accelerated timeline and my wife was already feeling strong emotional connections to the home. He was able to fine tune the offer negotiations to match my desire for a deal and ensure that we ended up with the house. We've been living in our new home for a month now and can't thank Michael enough for the value he added to our home buying experience.

If you are looking for real estate agent who knows the Seattle housing market, I strongly urge you to choose Michael. Michael helped me find my first home and his expertise was invaluable throughout the process. I ended up getting the first home I made an offer on, largely due to Michael's expertise. The home I purchased was well under-priced, which added uncertainty around what to offer. Michael provided a $15k range for what he thought the home would sell for, and sure enough I got the home by bidding squarely in the middle of that range (the second highest offer was a hair below). Both Michael and Mariesa Holm were incredibly responsive and wonderful resources to answer all of my questions throughout the process. Choose them to represent you and thank me later!

Nowadays the housing market in Seattle and on the Eastside is extremely competitive. When we bought our first home in 2016, we sought an agent who had significant local knowledge and who would help us land the house we wanted within our budget. We were very fortunate to work with Michael Schafer at RE/MAX Northwest. He did an incredible job helping us navigate our purchase from beginning to end (and beyond!). He was very responsive and patient throughout the process. He gave meticulous answers to all of our questions, and helped us narrow in on what we wanted most from a house. For every house we toured, he helped us identify potential resale issues. We could tell right from the beginning that he was not about to pressure us into something we didn't want; on the contrary he would even steer us away from properties that had resale issues which we might not have noticed. Best of all, Michael's negotiating skills and strategic thinking helped us land the *first* house we put an offer on (almost unheard of in the current local market). We are very happy to recommend Michael, especially to first-time home buyers in need of some extra hand-holding. We cannot recommend Michael highly enough!

Michael has helped us through two sales and purchases, and not only was he very helpful and responsive all the way through, his market savvy allowed us to NAIL the offer price on our current home vs several other buyers; it's an unbeatable location in a very competitive market.
