Description

As the chef and owner of Cafe Juanita, I have had the pleasure of calling Jim Marriott my friend for 16 years. Jim spent 14 years taking care of our guests, while making the restaurant the best it could be. I am very grateful to Jim and have endeavored the last 2 years to find ways to support him as he has struggled with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. I have started a Gofundme page to help with the expense related to his care. For those of us who know Jim, service, is the first word that comes to mind. Those closest know he lives to put others before himself. He has always been a devoted son, friend, employee, and community member. Jim planned to work "forever", but his plan to work for at least another ten years has been sidetracked due to the debilitating progression of his illness. If Jim touched your life in some way or cared for you, please take a moment to contribute to the man who is too humble to ever ask for the help he needs. I appreciate everyone's time, generosity, and compassion.

Very disappointed....

Forgot my mom's birthday after multiple reminders before calling and at the restaurant! I had called and made reservations several weeks in advance for my mom's birthday, a special dinner. We had a waiter that took forever to even serve us once we were seated. It took him a while to bring the menu and our drinks once we ordered. He even didn't know the ingredients of certain dishes and had to look at notes. All he said was that he was "new" of 6 months. As we had our dinner (which was fantastic food), we ordered dessert. At this point, I felt something was wrong as nothing came with a candle on it. I even made an excuse and went at the back to remind them that it's my mom's birthday and nothing came out for it. Anyway, we finish our desserts and still nothing! Now, I feeling so upset and disappointed, apologized to my mother that I ahd something planned and it didn't happen. I went after my family went into the car, back into the restaurant to share my disappointment and all the waiter could say was "i'm sorry i forgot, you should talk to the General Manager." The general manager did "comp" our desserts, but the whole point of having a $400 dinner is amazing food, amazing service, amazing experience for SPECIAL a occasion. Once that is forgotten, what's the point of doing the whole thing? Very disappointed in Cafe Juanita and beware that they don't seem organized to remember special occasions. I'm not sure I would go back for a special occasion vs. pick another amazing restaurant (of which, Seattle has plenty).

Lovely, classy gem tucked away in Kirkland. Understated yet romantic, perfect for date night and special occasions.

Lovely, classy gem tucked away in Kirkland. Understated yet romantic, perfect for date night and special occasions. Celebrated first Valentines here - we will be back. MAINS ETC - Grilled Octopus, smoked bone marrow, chickpea, salsa verde - the most succulent octopus I've ever had. I adore octopus and order it as often as I can. This was incredible. - Orecchietti, Parmigiano-Reggiano fonduta, cipollini, leek ash, breadcrumb. Hand-shaped pasta was perfectly al dente, and loved the leek ash - not just high-concept, actually delicious - Rabbit, pancetta, carrot crema, porcini, herbs - braised beautifully tender - Brussels sprouts, shallots - skipped salad and opted for sprouts, which were tasty and well-roasted, not too oily DESSERTS - Passionfruit panna cotta - DIVINE, absolutely mouthwatering! Impossibly airy, intensely flavorful. Refreshing and unique - Dark chocolate pave, hazelnut daquoise, espresso gelato - rich, indulgent. An opera of a dessert for a grand finale Service is gracious and impeccable, on par with Canlis. Reservations are a must.

SOOOO GOOD I AM COMING BACK FOR MORE!

Man oh man... My wife took me here for my birthday a few weeks ago. I had the WAGYU which was probably one of the best meals of my entire life. Unlike any steak I had ever eaten. The consistency was so tender unique and flavorful that I did not want to stop eating. Our waiter was perfectly on point, charming and helped us through the menu options.I really love this place's ambience. Its high brow but in a not so high brow location and setting which is what gives it its charm. Great remodel too. Certainly a special occasion place or for those who appreciate food as a delicacy utilizing unique ingredients and flare. At times the place can feel intimidating or a little pretentious when you peruse the menu and you can't seem to understand or recognize half of it. The waitstaff knows their stuff though and are quick to shell out explainations of the food that might sound like a foreign language to people like myself. The crowd here is noticeably a tad more "formal" and mature here I would say and the prices really reflect that. $95 for the WAGYU! BUT SOOOO GOOD I AM COMING BACK FOR MORE!

WoW!for braised rabbit.

I only tried one dish (braised rabbit) that did wow me. It was very prepared with good balance of texture in the whole dish.

The restaurant itself it beautiful. Service was impeccable. And then the food... oh the food!

Definitely died and went to heaven! Hot damn, best meal I have had in a long time and definitely near the top for best meal ever. The restaurant itself it beautiful. Clean, modern, but still has a homey feel to it. Service was impeccable. And then the food... oh the food! From the bread to the dessert it hit on all points. The bread plate has a nice variation of selections with crisp crackers to lovely focaccia. The yellowfin chowder that I had to start was rich, creamy and packed with large chunks of perfectly cooked fish. The rabbit entree was absolutely divine. So hearty and succullent. The meat would just break off easily with my fork, NO knife needed! and melt in my mouth. And the sauce was crazy good. And then the dark chocolate pave for dessert was just the perfect ending to the meal. If only I were a millionaire and could dine here all the time!

Chef Holly Smith wows with a romantic ambiance, tasty menu, and nice service.

Chef Holly Smith wows with a romantic ambiance, tasty menu, and nice service. My husband booked us a table for my birthday dinner. The restaurant is quaint and dimly lit to give you a warm and welcoming feeling. We were seated promptly in a nice cozy corner booth, which was nice and private. Tajarin with white sturgeon caviar: I loved every decadent bite of this creation! The pasta was shaved thin and cooked perfect al dente and the sauce was a perfect light buttery flavor. I loved how the caviar added depth and texture to the simple yet elegant dish. This dish definitely stole the show and I wish I could have had more. Hand shaped orcchietti, 30-month parmigiano reggiano fonduta, cippolini, leek ash, bread crumb: The little ear pastas were cooked well. The cheese fonduta and parmigiano was creamy, the bread crumb added a little crunch and there were streaks of the leek ash which made the dish interesting. Overall this dish tasted okay, but nothing to write home about. Probably would not order again. Octopus, smoked bone marrow, chick pea, salsa verde: As big bone marrow fans, we ordered this dish hoping for some fatty goodness. Although the presentation was pretty, the piece of octopus was a bit dry and chewy. The portion of bone marrow was a bit small, I almost didn't notice it served with the scoop of chickpea and salsa. I think I was expecting it to be served off the bone. This dish was not a favorite, but I think we forced ourselves to eat it. Rabbit liver mousse bruschetta: this dish is usually offered on the menu served with a tart beverage recommended by the chef. The mousse had an extremely rich and complex favor, and the bruschetta was toasted to a crisp texture. As I am a fan of chicken liver, the rabbit liver was a fun dish to try. Overall we enjoyed our meal. The service was okay. The waitress was relatively helpful with taking our orders, bringing out our food promptly. She seemed really busy and we didn't see her much otherwise until we finished eating and paid to leave. The menu is on the pricier side so this is definitely more of a special occasion spot. I might consider coming back someday for the tajarin with caviar, which was a delicious dish that I recommend trying.

You're welcome.

Step 1: Book a table. Step 2: Show up. Step 3: Get the tasting menu (and if you want, the wine pairing). Step 4: Enjoy the outstanding food, hilarious staff, and lovely ambiance. You're welcome.

Cafe Juanita is one of the best fine dining restaurant!

Cafe Juanita is one of the best fine dining restaurant! The new remodel is contemporary yet still have the fine dining feel to it. From the staff to the food, everything was phenomenal. The dishes are well composed and every bite makes your want to eat more! It is pricey, but it is well worth it if you know good food. One of my favorite dishes from them was the antipasti - Yellowtail cruda, Colatura, avocado, toasted almonds, fresh coriander. I will forever have a food memory of how amazing this dish was. Everything about it was perfect. Writing about it makes me wish I had it in front of me right now... Everything else we had during our dinner was just as a good. Cafe Juanita never disappoints. Our server Ryan was also a treat - He was professional, and didn't hesitate when we would ask what the components of a dish was.

Do you crave perfect food in a perfect setting for a perfect experience? Cafe Juanita is it...ahh!

No, this is not a taqueria. So, if you're coming here for a nacho fix, you woofed it. This is elegant food served at a civilized European pace, (assuming that Europeans are civilized these days.) It is sophisticated, cosmopolitan, polished, refined dining, that makes droppin' the rent here feel fun. The Yelper who belly ached about it taking 3 hours to eat dinner should be frog marched to the nearest Jack-in-the-Box. The restaurant is a converted home in the quiet neighborhood of Kirkland. Subtle tones, muted decor, white linen, (which also describes the patrons), classy stemware and china and yet it is still relaxed and unpretentious. These are Kirkland people who go here. They drink their Chablis with pinky extended. They do not eat pizza in the parking lot or maul corn dogs on a bench outside Costco. So, its Boomers in Beemers not Baby Mama's with screamers. Different section of Kirkland. There is also a downstairs garden patio serving the restaurant's greatest hits of small plates and charcuterie. Only the the hoodies know about this until now. Now, you do too. It is an ideal spot for that romantic occasion. A Birthday, an Anniversary, a 3rd date, or the night your divorce became final. There is a full bar without there being any bar. Order a draft craft beer and what is not in your glass or your face is chilling in a champagne ice bucket. How cool is that? The Staff: As professional as it gets this side of Taillivent. Kristin was cheerful, charming, and a culinary encyclopedia. She made the evening extra special. She knew exactly when to discuss the wine list as if she were Janet Yellin or when to smash a Foster's can on her forehead to get a smile from her guests. The Bar Program: Creative and urbane, No shooters or Micheladas at Juanita's. These are grown-up libations paired with perfect bar nibbles along with an endless plate of house made breads and crackers. A Summer Spritzer was Prosecco, house made Elderflower Cordial, Stone Fruit du jour, served with a buttered Radish Toast Point. It was as fresh and French as kissing that special person in high school who actually know how. The Limonata Sage Smash (which is how you'll end up if not careful), included Makers, Lemon, Sage, Cherry Herring, with a plum-y finish. A Rabbit Mousse and Big Cherry Bruschetta was along for the ride. The Food: You have died, gone to heaven and thumbed your nose at the French Laundry on your way to the Pearly Gates. The Belgian Endive Salad had Shaved Fennel, Walnuts, and a Calabrian Chili Vineagrette. The Endive were garden fresh and one of the best things Belgium has given the World besides chocolate and lax security. The Tajarin (linquine-ettes) was a tangle of house made hand cut pasta swirled into a Tammy Fay do. Owner Holly Smith hired a tool and dye maker who could cook. This was topped with fried baby Sage. Sage wisdom. It was a brilliant simple dish and as beautiful as your Mum when she was young. (Just in case my Mum is reading this). The Fermin Iberico de Bollota Presa, Chantrelles, Cipollino, roasted Apricot Crema, and Rosemary was grand. Imported pork shoulder from Spain carved off heritage pigs known for their boobs. (So is Scarlett Johansson, but these are accessible and no doubt cheaper.) This paired perfect with a glass of Le Piane Mimmo Nebbiolo Croatina Bocca 2011 which you should keep 6 bottles of just in case Scarlett shows up unannounced. The Rabbit braised in Arneis (an Italian white grape varietal), Porcini, Pancetta, Gnocchi alla Romana with herbs was the high water mark. This easily compares with the Bunny Porchetta at Redbird in LA. It was the best dish this side of Elmer Fudd's kitchen. I needed a glass of Abazzia di Novacello Pinot Nero Trentina 2013 to wash this spectacular food down, and guess what? They just happened to have some. Even though this is an Italian themed place it is really Continental food at it's best. Not since Le Cote Basque in New York closed do you find this level of cooking. But here it is. Finally, it was time for dessert, a delightful three hours later. Even though my slacks were two sizes smaller and had to be surgically removed I asked for the Bittersweet Chocolate Pave (brick), with Graham Cracker base, Marsala Brunt Meringue, and Smoked Gelato. There had to be a smoking gun somewhere. Of course there was, and now I will have to get a bigger Christmas stocking for mine. Side Bar: The bathrooms were spotless. I visited all of them. There was a stack of neatly rolled terry towelettes each one so no drip drying for you, or using the table cloth when no one is looking. Do you crave perfect food in a perfect setting for a perfect experience? Cafe Juanita is it...ahh!
