If you want to dine at a traditional Japanese restaurant that has the feel of a mom and pop shop, I'd definitely recommend Izumi.

If you want to dine at a traditional Japanese restaurant that has the feel of a mom and pop shop, I'd definitely recommend Izumi. The waitresses are all wearing kimonos and there's an adorable elderly woman greeting you as you walk in. The interior screams classic Japanese with wood panels lining the entire place. The restaurant looks deceptively small from the outside but there's another separate dining room that seats more people. I would make a reservation before coming here because this place gets PACKED! I believe they only take reservations for parties of 5 or more. You can tell that this place is authentic, serving fresh cuts of sushi/sashimi. I opted for the Izumi special makunouchi and I loved the presentation of it. It comes in 2 small bento boxes that stack on top of each other. When you remove the lid, it's a beautifully crafted assortment of items from sushi to sashimi, to tempura to teriyaki. It's also served with miso soup, a salad, sunomono and rice. I liked how thick the slices of sashimi were. You can taste the freshness of the fish with each bite! I wasn't a fan of the teriyaki though. The beef teriyaki was on the rough/overly-chewy side. The chicken was just alright in my book. But you're not coming here for the teriyaki, you're coming here for the sushi! We also got orders of uni which I thought were fantastic!! They really load up on the uni on each piece and I loved each bite...like biting into a creamy cloud!! Izumi serves up authentic, traditional and fresh Japanese sushi. I'm glad I found my spot when I'm on the Eastside of Seattle!

Excellent, authentic Japanese food and experience.

Excellent, authentic Japanese food and experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive. My cup of tea was never emptied (constant refills). Prices can be a little expensive for the entrees compared to other Japanese restaurants I've been to and worked at but luckily all of their ingredients and menu items are good if not high quality. I had the sushi+tempura dinner combo. The fish was very fresh and thickly sliced for nigiri which is great, also came with 3 assorted rolls. The tempura had a great variety including shrimp, cucumber, broccoli, mushroom, carrot, and eggplant. They share their parking with a plaza but it seemed like a lot of space. Will be returning for authentic Japanese if I'm in the area again.

Perfect for a nice date night for sushi fans!

A bit pricey but that's what to be expected for seafood, especially great quality sushi like this!! When I ate the yellow tail and the albacore, I was super impressed with the flavors and the textures from the fish alone. And I'm the one that sticks mainly to tuna and salmon! It was so good that I treated myself to another two! The venue is beautiful too! Perfect for a nice date night for sushi fans!

The portions are quite large and could have been 2 pieces in one.

I came in for the lunch and had the sushi special that came with some large nigiri and a few sushi rolls. The portions are quite large and could have been 2 pieces in one. I came away quite full and should have not immediate have ordered initially a few more pieces. That said, I will need to come back for dinner for the full REVIEW as just going for lunch gives you just a fraction of what is Izumi's potential.

Overall I would recommend this restaurant because the food is good. However Communication could be little bit of a problem here.

Good restaurant with a could-get-better service. Went around 7.45 pm on a Friday evening and had around 20mins wait. The waiting area is extremely tight, people have to squeeze past you to get out.You just write your name on the pad and wait patiently until someone calls you. The old lady who greeted us to take us to our table was pretty pleasant. However the waitress assigned to our table was a little cross. We called her to ask which sushi roll was included in the sushi platter, but somehow she wasn't happy that we were not ready to place the order by that time. Then after 5 mins some other waitress came to take our food. Fortunately we had better luck with her. We ordered the tofu miso soup, spicy salmon roll, California maki roll and soft shell crab roll. The best items that stood out were the spicy salmon roll and the soft shell crab roll( crab tempura style). Overall I would recommend this restaurant because the food is good. However Communication could be little bit of a problem here. Also their kitchen closes at sharp 8.30 pm so make sure you get the table by 8 pm to comfortably place your order. Would I go again ? Probably if I am around. But definitely not going out of the way to go here.

This is my favorite place to get sushi in the Seattle area.

This is my favorite place to get sushi in the Seattle area. Sit at the sushi bar and order omakase. The sushi chef will ask how many pieces of nigiri you want and what types of sushi you like/dislike. Usually I order 10 pieces which is a pretty good portion and comes out to abou ~$55 which is a real bargain. Their toro and scallop nigiri are to die for! The quality of the fish is amazing!

Highly recommend!

Izumi always delivers authentic Japanese food at extremely reasonable prices. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the quality of their food is consistently high, particularly for the price. I am always in search of authentic Japanese restaurants. I was born and raised in Japan, but have lived in the US over half of my life now. Izumi is my go to affordable authentic Japanese restaurant in the great Seattle area. I often bring my 9 year-old son here so that he can appreciate authentic Japanese food. FOOD My son and I just had dinner here. As you can see in my photo, we ordered the Chirashi & Udon dinner combo and a la carte salmon nigiri to share. The dinner combo came with miso soup, salad, and sunomon (not in the picture). My son also ordered tamago nigiri; I ordered uni for myself. I loved the uni and salmon nigiri the most. The uni was flavorful but was not smelly. First of all, the slice of the salmon was huge! it was fresh and sweet, too. The only two minor complaints are (i) the Chirashi had too much rice relative to the amount of fish, and (ii) the tamago was too sweet to my taste. Otherwise, it was an excellent satisfying dinner. PRICE It was plenty of food for two of us, but it only came to $37 (excluding the tax and tip)! I think this is more than reasonable.PARKING & RESERVATION Izumi is on a shopping center, and there is a decent size free parking lot shared with other businesses. I never had trouble parking here. I have seen people waiting by the door, but I always just go without a reservation. I have never had a problem. FINAL WORDS If you're looking for authentic Japanese food in a relaxed atmosphere, I highly recommend Izumi. If you like sushi, I recommend ordering from the a la carte menu because of the generous size of the fish slices. Izumi is not an upscale restaurant, but it is "as good as it gets" in its class: five Star. ****************************** If you found something useful in my REVIEW, please hit "useful." If you want to satisfy your regular sushi craving while maintaining a nice relationship with your wallet, Izumi is for you.

If you want to satisfy your regular sushi craving while maintaining a nice relationship with your wallet, Izumi is for you. I love myself a good omakase, and I crave it more often than I should. Knowing that I'm not able to pay a visit to Shiro Kashiba in Pike Place every month, Izumi is my best alternative. For just $30, you could get a great assortment of omakase selections - including your staple cuts of toro, uni, and fried shrimp head. I have heard the line for Izumi could get atrociously long, but we came on a Saturday night right when it opened and did not have to wait for a bar seating. The chef offered us a delicious selection and our bill didn't exceed $40 per person - did not know this was possible for a decent omakase. I've also heard the katsu and bentos here are great. Give Izumi a try if you're around Kirkland or paying a visit to the Costco near there. Beware of potential lines, but this is an excellent find for all omakase addicts.
